Am I eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine?

Australians over 50 as well as people in phase 1a and 1b of the federal government’s vaccine rollout are now eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

But other groups of people are also eligible for the vaccine, depending on which state or territory they live in.

VICTORIA

People in Victoria aged 50 and over are able to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine at either state-run vaccination centres or a GP clinic.

Victorians aged between 40 and 49 are able to get the Pfizer vaccine at state-run vaccination sites.

People eligible for the Pfizer vaccine must book an appointment by calling the Coronavirus Hotline on 1800 675 398.

The Victorian Department of Health said on Thursday the hotline was experiencing a high volume of calls and callers might have connection difficulties or delays.

NEW SOUTH WALES

People in New South Wales aged 50 and over are able to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine at either a NSW Health vaccination clinic or a GP clinic.

An appointment is needed to get the AstraZeneca vaccine.

People in New South Wales aged under 50 who are in phase 1a or 1b are eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine at a NSW Health vaccination clinic.

People aged 40 to 49 who are not in phase 1a or 1b can register their interest to receive the Pfizer vaccine with Services NSW.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA

All people aged 16 years and over who live in a regional council area in South Australia can get a COVID vaccine at a regional vaccination clinic.

Those eligible need to book an appointment here. Some clinics will only offer either the Pfizer or AstraZeneca jab.

Regional residents will need to bring proof of their residential address to their vaccination appointment.

SA Health says young people from a regional area who study in a metropolitan area are still eligible, provided their home address is still in the regions.

People in phases 1a and 1b can book an appointment for a COVID vaccine through the federal government’s website.

People aged 50 and over can get the AstraZeneca vaccine at a SA Health vaccination clinic, GP clinic, respiratory clinic and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Services.

SA Health says if you have a history of cerebral venous thrombosis, heparin-induced thrombocytopenia and thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome, speak to your GP about your vaccination.

QUEENSLAND

People in Queensland aged 50 and over can get a COVID vaccine at either a Queensland Health vaccination location, GP clinic or Aboriginal Controlled Community Health Services.

People in Queensland aged under 50 who are in phase 1a or 1b can book an appointment to get a COVID vaccine at a Queensland Health vaccination location.

People aged between 40 and 49 can register their interest to get a COVID vaccine here.

Queensland Health says you will receive the vaccine (either Pfizer or AstraZeneca) recommended for your age and other eligibility criteria.

TASMANIA

People in Tasmania aged 50 and older can get a COVID vaccine at a participating community clinic, GP clinic or respiratory clinic.

Tasmania’s Department of Health says you will not be able to choose which COVID-19 vaccine you get.

The Pfizer jab is preferred for people who are under 50 years of age.

People aged between 16 and 19 who are in phase 1a or 1b can call the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738 to make a booking for a COVID vaccine here.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA

People in Western Australia aged 50 and older are able to get the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Those eligible can book an appointment here at a COVID-19 vaccination community clinic, regional public hospital-based vaccination clinic, GP clinic, respiratory clinic or Aboriginal Medical Services.

Adults in Western Australia aged under 50 who are in phase 1a or 1b are able to get a COVID vaccine at a COVID-19 vaccination community clinic or regional public hospital-based vaccination clinic.

The WA Department of Health says you will be offered the suitable vaccine (either Pfizer or AstraZeneca) at the time of booking your appointment.

AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY

People in the ACT in phase 1a and 1b, and people aged 50 and older are able to get a COVID vaccine.

Eligible people can make a booking to get their COVID vaccine at the Garran COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic, Calvary Public Hospital COVID-19 vaccination clinic, a GP clinic or Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health and Community Services.

The ACT’s Department of Health says you will not be able to choose which COVID-19 vaccine you get.

NORTHERN TERRITORY

Residents of Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Katherine and Nhulunbuy aged 16 years and over can get a COVID vaccine.

Those eligible can book an appointment online, or with a participating GP clinic in Alice Springs.

Adults in Greater Darwin aged 50 and over are able to book an appointment for a COVID vaccine via an NT Health clinic or with a participating GP clinic.

Adults in Greater Darwin aged between 16 and 49 who are in phase 1a or 1b are eligible for a COVID vaccine.

NT Health is working to provide the COVID-19 vaccine to remote communities across the NT.

The NT government says the AstraZeneca vaccine is recommended for people over 50 years of age, while the Pfizer jab is recommend for people under 50.
